The Old Vic

Woyzeck trailer

Impact was called in for a real challenge: to take a blank-sheet approach to raising awareness of The Old Vic’s production of Woyzeck – and star John Boyega – among a cinema-going audience.

Ahead of The Old Vic’s production of Woyzeck, written by Jack Thorne and starring John Boyega, the iconic theatre wanted a trailer to promote the show… before rehearsals for the production had even started.

With that in mind, a creative approach was needed to bring the dark world of Georg Buchner’s play to life. The Impact video team took inspiration from opening credits for popular television shows and big-budget film sequences.

We developed the concept with The Old Vic and suggested combining still photography, filmed footage and archive material to portray a sense of that world on screen. It couldn’t directly showcase the production, of course, but did replicate its aesthetic.

Key to the trailer’s success is building tension and momentum, from start to finish. Throughout the process we worked closely with the director and the theatre, to ensure that the trailer was a true reflection of the production.
